I started knitting in December, and now I've made socks! How frigging awesome is that? I learned how to turn a heel, and I learned the Kitchener stitch for the toes. These are really simple socks, and honestly the hardest part for me was the ribbed tops. I am still trying to learn to "read" my knitting and this was my first ribbing ever.

It was supposed to be a knit one, purl one rib and I just could not get my brain around that as my first ribbing, so it is a knit two, purl two rib. I am a little better at the idea of recognizing the stitches as I go along and I think the next socks I make will be ribbed all the way down, and then I think I will try to make it all stockinette on the bottom of the foot after I turn the heel.

But who know what I will really make, I am trying not to turn into a distracted knitter, but the jumping from project to project is very appealing.

Creamsicle Hat

I'm a big big big fan of orange and have long been a fan of creamsicle orange from Lamb's Pride. I recently bought a couple of skeins in the the hope that I could make a hat, a scarf, and once I was a bit more advance, some mittens or gloves.

Hopefully all the others will go as well as this one did.

Sea Cucumber Hat

Experimented a little with that switching back and forth between knitting and purling inside of a set of round needles.

I got the hang of how to do it pretty quickly with all this spare yarn, but the hat was overly large and shapeless.

Kind of amorphous and squishy like a sea cucumber, and it was all green too...so yeah, sea cucumber hat.

Signed Up For Socks

I signed up for a sock class, and it is a little nerve jangling to think I will be attempting socks soon, of course I didn't think I would be making hats anytime soon, and I've been making those okay.

The pattern calls for non-standard wool, normally it would be something thinner I guess.

There is also ribbing, something I still haven't quite gotten the hang of, but I will just keep trying I guess. I think it has a little to do with my sad sad attention span.

What was I saying?

Picking a color for my yarn was a dream, all the colors were a delight dream of a name, Ruby River, Crazy Woman, Aurora Borealis, and then the color I picked is Moondance. Lovely, right? I just wish I could have gotten something more cotton-y less wool-y, but maybe it will be a delight to wear when all knitted up.

I think I'm done with hats for a little while.

Either that or I'm gonna try and do ribbing next.

Yep, a blanket or a hat with ribbing is next.

But I really enjoyed the sunny brightness of this hat was awesome.

Kind of like a pattern almost.

I have a lot of spare white yarn (which is probably pretty obvious) but I don't want to get crazy with it and just do white all over the place. I'm trying to make them kind of attractive hats, even if I end up giving all the hats away. I mean I only have one head.

Variegated Blue

These little hats are going faster and faster.

I had a lot more variegated blue yarn than green, but the same weird differences cropped up between each hat.

I'm going to try and do some patterns next, nothing complex, but something that isn't just blind burning through the yarn.

Moved on to some variegated yarn.

Weird how different these two hats can look from each other when they are exactly the same yarn.

It is both cool, and strange.

Bright and Yellow

Made some more yellow hats.

I think I like working with double-pointed needles now that I know what I'm kind of doing.

It helps to be working with yarn that is spare and nothing I'm all that attached to and didn't exactly cost a fortune or anything.

Stripey Blankey

This is the baby blanket that will go along with the blueberry hat as a gift to the new mom and baby.

This was a really simple baby blanket, but it came out not too shabby. I learned a bit about gauge as the edging is wider on the sides than on the ends. I'm still not quite ready to knit a gauge patch for each project, but I see the need now.

I liked working with the cotton yarn, it was soft and when all knit together created a really nice feel. Plus it was was super easy to wash which will be a bonus for the new mom.

Kind of like a Blueberry

All the hat practice has paid off, I made a super fun, and mostly cutesy hat for a close friend of mine.

She just had a new baby on the 23rd. The "blueberry" idea here is sort of a family theme.

I know that blueberries are bog fruit and aren't picked off of stems, but I wasn't sure how else to make the hat so that it looked like a blueberry and was something I could knit.

Scraps and Stuffs

Because I'm practicing and trying to figure out more about about how I knit so I can eventually get better at tidier knitting and the idea of patterns and how they work together I've started working on hats.

I'm using up all of this scrap yarn that my mother will never use and has just been sitting around gathering dust. It gets me to practicing with the double-pointed needles and helps me feel the difference between acrylics and wools. I made my first two projects out of wool for a friend's birthday.

I'm hoping to try cotton next.

Beginner

I am a beginning knitter, I just took a class in the last couple of months to refresh what little I already had rolling around in my noggin.

In February I am supposed to learn how to crochet, or at least be refreshed in the crochet department, and maybe learn how to read a freaking pattern.

This particular blog has been several different things, as of right now it is a sporadic "crafting" blog.
